Split limb phenomenon in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: electrophysiologic study

This electrophysiological study investigated the split-limb phenomenon in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), comparing 24 patients with ALS to 24 healthy controls. The findings demonstrated preferential involvement of ankle dorsiflexor muscles over plantar flexors and elbow flexors over extensors. The split foot index was significantly associated with disease duration and functional status, highlighting the potential value of electrophysiological indices in assessing muscle involvement and disease progression in ALS.
